My conspiracy theory on the borked multitasking

Nice. I'll check it out. I can live without the camcorder functionality (for now). How's the menu button thingy handled? Are the buttons re-mapped? I may have a couple other questions for you, since I'm an android noob (ex-webOS user). PM okay?

Yeah, no problem throw me a PM if you need help. I'm a noob to android too and figured it out fine. Buttons are remaped to the physical One X buttons.

The best thing you can do is get a third party launcher like Nova, then freeze or delete the Sense launcher and anything Sense you don't want with Titanium.

How do you freeze sense with titanium? I don't want to delete it just freeze it.

Wow. I finally got CM9 up and running on my HOX. Suddenly, I don't feel like throwing away this device. Pure ics is a breath of fresh air. It should be a crime to bastardize it with sense or Touchwiz...

I have thought about this myself. I certainly wouldn't put it past at&t. What I find odd is that I have seen some posts stating that the at&t One X is actually worse at multitasking than both the international version and the Evo 4G LTE. In any event I've been done with the One X for about two weeks now and have had a much more pleasant android experience on my Vivid as I wait for the SIII.

That's funny because I had a terrible experience with my vivid and traded it in for the one x and am very much happier now lol. To each their own I suppose. ;)

I could not agree with you more sir! The manufacturers variant bastards just ruin hardware.

judging from what I am reading, the extent of the problem is:

1.- That people see app refreshes
2.- That returning to an open application may not take the user exactly where s/he left off.

<snip>

I have seen a number of descriptions of this problem and a number of ways to reproduce it. I have tried all I have found and have never been able to, not once. Every time I return to an open application, it is exactly where I left it, be it a game, the stock web browser or other apps like Pocket, etc. When I bring one app from the background, it does take the blink of an eye to paint it after the animation finishes, but if that is a problem, well, I would stress my initial argument even further.

I know this is a thread for this issue on HTC One X but the topic caught my eye and was relevant to the exact same problem with the samsung epic even with customs ROMs including CM9. Since you say you don't have the problem there must be something different between you (and those who don't have the problem) and those who do. It takes the browser sometimes 30 sec to 1 min to refresh which is why I know it's not just a redraw in my case. And I for one would like to know what is different so that I can take steps to stop it from happening. When you switch between apps and much as someone like me these little annoyances get quite frustrating.

For example today I needed to run some math on dollar amounts in the mint app. Switching to the calculator and then back to mint and having to tap several times and then scroll down to get back to where I was and repeat that a dozen times to complete the calculations. Now tell me you wouldn't hop on here an be one of the complainers. It was so bad I grabbed my brothers smartphone use it's calculator so I could keep mint on the screen so that I wouldn't have to keep re-navigating to where I left off. So please if you have any solution to share with us to correct these two problems I'd love to know what it is. So that I can finally after more than a year putting up with it can finally smash the only thing that makes me loath the OS.

I too like the look and feel of not just ICS but it in CM9. I'd have to use an HTC or samsung ICS device in order to get a comparative feel. I do know that on my samsung epic (stock GB) there were quite a few things I didn't like about the TW apps that samsung used to replace the stock google android apps. I still miss cards on webOS as it was the easiest and fastest way for me to multitask. ICS recently used apps is an ok replacement of that but not quite as quick since you have to hold the home to access it. If I can just get rid of the above mentioned problem then it'll be a much better multitasking experience.

I don't know, man, I just don't have those issues... I don't use mint, but I tried a similar test with an app I use, Springpad (creating a note in which I add a number of different calculation results in a single notebook, making sure I was creating a long enough note so that I would have to scroll up and down to enter data). I would complete calculations and then copy results and paste them in the Springpad note I had oppened, and the application was always right were I left it, no need to scroll up or down.

Anyways, which version of the One X are you on? I kinda get the feeling like the problem is more acute in US models, perhaps due to a carrier faulty setup?

I don't have a one X but since my experience on the samsung epic was identical to the OP and some of the replies I figured I would contribute to the discussion that it was happening on at least one other device. It's not all apps that aren't at where you left them when you return to the app. Browsers stock and 3rd party force refresh the page when returning to it. Defeats the purpose of switching away to work with another app while the page loads. Youtube won't buffer while it is in the background. And if you had completely buffered a video and had to pause it to put your device down or take a call or work with another app for a moment and then return to it you have to re-buffer from where you left off. I looked through all my apps and without playing with all 212 apps I can't recall which other ones had the two issues.

Sometimes if you open a lot of apps the first app or two you used the OS ends the task if RAM got too low. And you will have to renavigate upon going back to the app. With a PC or webOS for example you would just get a message you have too much stuff running to open another app. Rectified with some user tweaking so that the message is avoidable under those circumstances and still be able to have that many apps open. Most of the time that isn't an issue unless you need to have a lot of apps stay open. I'm sure the one X has significantly more RAM than the epic so this is probably happens even rarer than on the epic.
