My droid max is now out of contract, how do i replace its operating system?

It's not a phone any more, it's a small tablet and a nice camera. I want to get rid of all the Verizon bloatware and just have generic android if possible.

Welcome back! In order to get rid of bloatware, you have to root the phone -- a good place to search is XDA-Developers.com. If you want it to look like "vanilla" Android, you'd have to find a custom ROM designed for the Droid Maxx, which you can also search for there.
