I started out with the og Droid then moved to the Droid X,in December of 2011 it was upgrade time again. I held off for several months just to see what the next new and best phone on the block would be.
I had finally decided I was going to get the Razor Max,but it was allways out of stock and on backorder. Well thankfully I decided to head to Verizon and play with some phones.
I played with the Rezound, the Razor the Bionic, and then finally I picked up a phone that made me think my Motorola days were coming to an end.
The first thing to catch my eye was the screen and the way it stood head and shoulders above the Razor.
I don't want this phone I said to myself it has a poor camera (so say some reviews) After snapping a few photos with both phones in the same spot I realized the Gnex took plenty nice enough photos for capturing some of lifes daily snapshot moments.
ICS is on this phone, but it will be coming to the Razor I told myself. I then recalled all the trouble Moto had with updating the X to Gbread.
I am also hoping that although the big V is not the best about pushing updates, the Gnex updates will go smoother do to lack of added on manufacturer crap.
I then looked at the apps to see what bloatware was installed on each phone (no more need be said)
Is it worth buying a phone just for battery life I wondered. 30 minutes later I walked out with my new Gnex and a spare battery with charger.
PROS:
ICS. It's truly a game changer. (other phones will get it but after seeing it in action I didn't want to waite)
I like the look and feel of this phone.
Display.
Fast camera that takes plenty nice enough photos for my needs.
Lack of bloatware,no sense or blur slowing it down, easy to root and use custon roms.
Not hearing my phone say Droooooid. ( just kidding, call me a nerd but I kinda miss that)
CONS: Battery life? True it isn't great, but it isn't the hog my wifes Tbolt was. As far as standby time and light to moderate usage I reallly cant complain to much.On Friday I put a freshly charged battery in at 2pm went to work made a call at break, checked facebook and news, used it on my 30 minute supper break, went home surfed the web and these forums for about 90 minutes, set an alarm, used it lightly during the day and replaced the battery at around 7pm.
As of now (knock on wood) I have not had any of the other bugs some people have reported, maybe I lucked out and got one manufactured on a shift with good workers lol.
Build quality? Is it Kevlar? No. It does feel good in the hand and is solid enough to not feel plasticky and cheap. The battery cover seems flimsy, but after having it off and on several times it has presented no problems.
If problems arise I will be back looking for answers and bemoaning my choice of phones,But at this point I am more than happy with my choice.
