Is there any way to fix this? It seems to have happened when I tried to take a screenshot and I pressed too hard. I didn't think I pressed too hard but maybe I did.

It seems to slant from left to right. The right side being more recessed and it's really annoying. Should I try returning it?

That depends, how long have you had the device? If you've had it for a while, I'd try taking it apart first and seeing if I could pop it back into place.

I have no idea how hard you pushed it but if you just pushed it with a normal amount of force, that definitely shouldn't have happened. I'd bring it in and ask them to replace it if you just got it not too long ago.

Take a can of compressed air and clean around the perimeter of the button while pushing it up and down, I expect that something is between the casing and the rubber membrane

Use a household vacuum to suck it up and clean around it. Air may push crap further into the phone.
