My girlfriend is in Turkey and I am in Hongkong. Any good calling apps to recommend?

Hey guys.

So here is the thing:

My girlfriend Janet and I met in university in the States. After graduation, we went on with our Master's Degree in our own hometown and have been in long distance relationship for almost a year.

Normally we get in touch on a daily basis. Since she is focusing on a project in the countryside now, the signal is just too bad for Skype or any WiFi coverage. Yet calling from Hong Kong to Turkey is not cheap for students like us.

So what should I do?

Tolerate crappy signal and stick to free apps like Skype or get a cheap calling app?

Have you tried calling from WhatsApp? Ive experience with using it with a poor WiFi signal and it worked better than Skype

We use Wechat with WiFi and then calling free. And you also can use Buyai, you only can send massage with it. But you can choose gift for your girlfriend when you chat with your girlfreind on Buyai. I think that's a good App for boyfreind and girlfriend.

I've been researching some alternatives for Skype and hangout etc. Depending on your needs of whether you want video calls, work on desktop etc.
