My granddaughter set a password on my old LG and can't remember it how can I get back in

I got a new phone so I cleaned up my old LG download some games and gave the phone to my 8 year old granddaughter. She thought she would be smart and set a screen lock password but doesn't remember the password.

I've tried to wait until the phone turns off after too many attempts then looking for a reset prompt I don't see one. I have held the power volume up and middle button. I get the LG icon but goes right to lock screen after that.

Can anyone help she's heartbroken. Thanks

If you want to factory reset the phone you'd have to go into recovery mode and reset it from there. That should clear the lockscreen password, but also wipe all data in the phone. Unfortunately, 'old LG' doesn't help much to figure out exactly how to enter this mode in your particular device.

If you want to recover the phone without wiping data, you could try logging into the same Google account that's set up in the phone in a web browser in the Play Store. There, go to the Android Device Manager and you should see an option there to reset the lockscreen password. Remember that this only works if you didn't disable Android Device Manager from your device.

I'm sorry it's not that old it is an LG ms659.

I'm not sure how to get to recovery mode, I tried doing a couple things I saw online and it didn't work.

When you say go into a web browser in Google play and sign in to the Google account you just mean to sign in to Google from the Google play page sorry I'm kinda lost in this.

Yup, go to play.google.com and sign on with the same account that was used to set up the phone (otherwise it just won't see the phone). As to how to reset it (again, this would wipe ALL DATA from your phone) you can check this out:

Ok I signed in I have located both phones but on the phone in question it says "online, your device's location access is turned off " which I assume means I'm sol.

So my only option would be to check out suggested website you recommend and do the reset?

Hi Debbie,

Not really. There should be a RING, LOCK, and ERASE option at the bottom in Device Manager. Even if location services are turned off, you should still be able to reset the password using the LOCK option. Or the Erase one in case you just want to format the whole thing.

If that isn't available, then yes, following the instructions on the link I provided to fully reset your device would be the only way to get it 'back'. Again, remember that this means all data is lost. Pictures, documents, music, apps, saves... ALL Data.
