My Home Page Google Search Microphone button is not working. How can I fix it?

My Home Page Google Search Microphone button is not working.

I have a Droid Turbo.

Sometime today the little microphone button on my home page has stopped working when pressed. It only happens on my homepages on the phone, so if I tap on Google and bring up the browser page or then I can tap on the microphone and talk.

If I'm on the Home Screen; however, I can press it again and again and it is totally unresponsive. I have tried:

-turning the phone off and on again,
- going onto home-screen settings and turning google search on and off
- downloaded a anti-virus program suggested by a friend with the same phone and done searches.

Please help. This may seem like a rather small issue, but I use that microphone button a lot when using my phone.

My wife is having the same problem on her turbo. I tried uninstalling all Google App updates and reinstalling. That did nothing. Cleared cache and that didn't fix it either. I suspect it's the recent Google App update though.

Just found a similar thread on the Droid Turbo 2 forum. They are having the same issue. It might be a moto issue.

Yep, experiencing the same problem here. Noticed right after updating the Google Search app

Install a new launcher app and make it the default. The Google Now launcher works similarly to the stock launcher, or you can try a paid launcher like Nova Launcher Prime, Action Launcher, or Apex. All will have a Google search widget that works.

Same issue - stopped working after recent Google update. If I tap into the search bar and open Google Now, then it starts working. Hotword detection still works fine.

The problem is a conflict between the Google app and the Moto App, the Moto app takes over the microphone and will not let google use it. so in order to use "ok Google" you have to disable the Moto app. Maybe the reason motorola is removing it from their Marshmallow update. It you use the Moto app and have your wake up phrase recorded like "what's up Turbo?" ask your question or tell it to call or text someone it will open up your google app and runs from there.

It's really awkward on my 2015 Silverado with the "mylink" app on their radio. The voice app in the radio likes to fight it out with the Moto app, so either you disable the Moto app or you use the Moto wakeup phrase.

I don't think that's it this time because if you manually add the Google widget I bet it will work fine.

The problem is that Motorola made the launcher with an old version of the Google widget that doesn't get updated when Google changes the search app. If you install another launcher (Google Now, Nova, Apex, Action Launcher) I bet that you'll find that the microphone in the widget works fine.

Motorola could put an update to the launcher in the Play Store, as they've done for the camera, Moto app, etc.

The last I read was:

"To cut down on redundancy, Motorola announced today that with the future update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, owners will no longer see Moto Assist, Moto Migrate, and Chrome extension support through Motorola Connect." - so Moto Voice remains (as of this article at least)

My Moto Voice works after updating, I use in place of Ok Goggle currently, so I am puzzled why mine is working and not others as indicated in this thread.....

Same problem here. Started a few days ago. The widget works, just not the one at the top of every screen. I don't understand a lot of the replies here. Hoping for a response that is clear for a non-power-user like me.

When Motorola made the launcher (the program that shows your home screens and the app drawer) they hard-coded a Google search bar widget that looks and used to work like the real Google search widget but isn't exactly the same. Google changed their app in a way that broke the Motorola replacement search bar widget. Motorola has to update the launcher, or you have to manually add the Google widget yourself, or you have to install a replacement launcher from the play store to get the microphone icon in the widget to start working again.

Is it really a Motorola launcher issue though? The microphone icon was working for me fine before the latest Google App update--so I'd think something is buggy with the app and not the launcher?

If you manually install the Google widget onto a home screen I'll bet that you find the microphone works fine in that widget. Motorola should have used google's widget and not make a faux version.

Ahh, I see what you mean. That is a bit annoying on Moto's part...

I have the same problem with my Droid Turbo. Wasted space at the top of every home screen. When will Motorola fix this?

The more that you think about it, the more that I blame Google for this. Google requires the oems to include the search bar in the default launcher to be Google certified for play store and the Google apps, and Google should make sure that they make no changes to their app that would affect these default search bars.

Regardless of who's to blame here, they should all be held accountable. Isn't there some level of testing that needs to be done for compatibility before any changes are made? I'm not a techie, but simply a user. I'm wasting valuable time trying to resolve the issues that should not occur in the first place. I enjoy the flexibility of an Android the most of the features, but the lack of communication between all of the controlling parties becomes really really aggravating! I'm about to go back to Apple.
