My HTC One gets worse reception than my old "HTC EVO 4G"

The subject pretty much states it all. The reception is pretty bad in areas where my EVO 4G never had any issues. In fact, I live within 1 mile from 3 Sprint towers, and I get one bar in my home. However, the signal strength increases to 3 bars once I step outside the house! While I can understand the difference between inside and outside, I have never had such poor reception on my EVO! Now it's so bad that I keep dropping calls and people can't hear me. It's actually pretty bad if I can't talk on the cell phone when I'm at home. I've only had the phone for a week and love it in all other regards but this is concerning to me.

I have been trying to see if other people have issues with the One's reception but there aren't enough conclusive reports. Should I get my phone checked out while I still can?

Yeah, I'd have it swapped or serviced. I don't have any issues with signal strength.

Never had issues with Note 2 on Rogers. I upgraded to One, S4 and nexus 4 all have poor receptions.

All are unlocked and Bell has no problems. I tried calling it in and no help.

I had this issue with my s3, s4, and my One. BUT....Sprint has been working on upgrading towers to the new vision network all over the country. It seems to hit areas harder than others but once it's finished, you're reception will be much, MUCH better!

I live within a mile from a tower too and have had great reception here...with all phone. When they started doing this upgrade, our signal and reception dropped like a rock. While I never dropped many calls, calls would sound robotic with lots of static. 3G speeds were lower than dial-up!

It took them 4 months but all I can say is that it was worth the frustration.

I live not far from a tower, almost always have full service. I had the evo lte and now have the one, I have signal in places I didn't before, like on my way home from work, used to have 2 or 3 dead spots, now I can talk the whole way home no drop calls. Just throwing that out, I did have lte in the house as well I live in an apartment in a basement and still great service with both evo and the one

My area (Rochester, NY) does not have LTE yet. I talked to the corporate Sprint store today and the guy on the phone was totally clueless. Unfortunately if I want them to look at it, it will mean an hour wait if I come during any time that's good for *me*, and if I don't want a wait I have to show up at 10am when they open. Seems kind of ridiculous but I might drop off my phone and come back for it later on. I figure I may as well try to have them look at it while I am still within my 30 day window.

I've been a long time customer of Sprint since 98 and recently have no data/signal about 75% of the time. I live in central Houston. It has been extremely frustrating. The only time my HTC ONE works is when I am connected via Wi-Fi

1 mile from 3 sprint towers..
WOW those towers sure are close together.. Must be one congested area or have a lot of big buildings..
What you need to do is do a side by side comparison with another ONE and go into settings and check out the decibel level of each unit.. That will then give you an accurate comparison of your unit to another for signal strength.

haha, well, when I look at the coverage map on Sprint, it shows three towers around where I live,... but maybe I'm just not reading it right or something. in any case, I went to the Sprint store today, and the guy took my phone into the back to test, and came back and said that my phone is having trouble with one of the towers that is right next to where I live and that he has had multiple people come in with the reception issues in the last few days. he said opened up a ticket with sprint and they will come out and take a look... he also said LTE should be here in 2 to 5 months. I bet 2015! Oh I hope to be wrong

Unfortunately, manufacturers have ventured away from things like battery life, reception and storage. I'd suggest getting an Airrave for your house and waiting for a Motorola phone. Anything by Samsung (Except maybe the Note 2) will be worse than your One.

I went from the EVO 4G to the Photon to the EVO LTE. Lack of LTE (Still none in Minnesota Suburbs) and poor reception pushed me to Verizon. The Photon had the best reception of all the phones I had on Sprint.

Call Sprint and them reprovision your phone. It only takes a couple minutes and it will be worth it. Basically all they're doing is resetting your data.

Must call CS to have this done as most sprint reps in the stores will look at you like deer into headlights!

I still have my photon as a backup. That phones radios was second to none!

Yup. I know my radios. I laugh every time I see someone with a Galaxy S3 pretending to have excellent signal.

I had less signal issues with the Photon than even the RAZR MAXX & RAZR MAXX HD. :o

I was one of those people.....:-!
It's alright. I've found it's in people's nature to defend their purchasing decisions.

Facts are facts though. Hopefully the Motorola X phone and new Moto Droids on Verizon will have excellent reception.

I just wish manufacturers would focus on the important things, like reception, battery life, storage, out door readability and a smooth UI.

Most people would gladly tote around a phone a few millimeters thicker for a larger battery and stronger reception. Just look at the success of the MAXX and Note 2.

I'd switch in a heartbeat if anyone could match my SERO Premium total of $57.04 with tax per month for an Unlimited Everything plan and a phone subsidy every 2 years... Any advice?

The plan wouldn't be worth $57.04 per month if I couldn't use the service when I wanted too. I'd rather pay a higher premium for service that works. Then again thats just me and we all have our own needs at the end of the day.

Yeah there's no need to go into philosophical debates here, (but it beats work, right?). Yeah I've been pretty happy with Sprint in the 8 years that I've been with them. Even though the service in my area is dominated by Verizon, the cost difference to go from "pretty happy" to "really happy" is way too big of a premium. Now, if I didn't have SERO, I would definitely switch to Verizon but at this point I'll have to "suffer" with my HTC ONE on Sprint. I love our 1st world problems. God Bless the USA :D
