My Huawei Mate 9 won't factory reset

So I haven't used my Huawei in a while and decided to switch back to it. However my pass code isn't working, and I don't know why because I have the same pass code for all my phones. So I know I didn't forget it.

When I try to do the factory reset with the volume up and power button, it doesn't work either. What shows up after the Huawei Logo screen is 'Software Install Failed: the update package does not exist. Please download the package again'

Can anyone help me with this. I have no idea how to reset or get into my phone. And I tried by doing the Android Device Manager and my Huawei isn't showing up.

You might be able to use the HiSuite software and a desktop PC to recover your Mate 9.
Edit:
Also remove any SD and SIM cards then re-try.

I think that is volume down and power button . Try this.

This is an old thread but it's one of the top google search results for the problem described in this thread, and the only solutions online require that you know the password.

Guytronic had the solution: take out your sim/sd cards

Power off the phone, remove the sim card, and then hold volume up and power buttons to enter recovery mode. This time you should see the usual Reset/Wipe data options.

Hope this helps. I got hopelessly locked out after forgetting my password and getting a "software install failed" errror.
