my mobile data is not getting turned on , why is that ?

im using the galaxy s3 . after i clicked the mobile data icon , it shows that its on but i cant see the arrows that going up and down on the top of the display. please help !

IDK about the S3, but, on my Note 4, the up and down arrows (⬆⬇ ) only appear when I'm using wi-fi. Mobile data only shows the signal strength indicator bars and "4G LTE" when it's available.
