This is be the first time for me to use a high end smartphone.

May I know what are the things I should do with my new baby?

Things like Dos and Donts before anything bad happen. A list of must have useful apps and description will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

PS. I heard Titanium backup is best to keep your phone safe. Any comments?

snapseed

Is it necessary to root for Nexus 4? Got major improvement for battery life and performance?

If you ever wanted to get a case this is the phone to do it for! Not necessary to root, but easy to do. I used wugs took kit to unlock and root my Nexus 7 and the same program can be used on the Nexus 4. If you ever plan to root you many want to unlock the bootloader when you get it because it does a factory reset and wipes everything.

Google the top apps for nexus 4 or if you root, top rooted apps.

some of my top stock apps:

Astro File Manager
Adobe Reader
Amazon Mobile
Android Central Forums
Audio Manager
Barcode scanner
BatteryLife
Cam scanner
Lite flow lite
NFC task launcher (and tags Nexus 4, there are 2 types)
Netflix
Ebay
Pandora
tiny flashlight +LED
XDA forums

Rooted apps:
SuperSU - Chainfire's super user app
Titanium Backup
Adfree Android
SD Maid system cleaning tool (very powerful, be careful)
Volume +

Case or bumper is almost necessary if you have dropped a phone in the past. One drop at maybe even 2 or 1 foot is a crack on your nexus 4

Solid Explorer
Android Central Forum application :P
Titanium Backup
Airdroid
and I don't like SD Maid, it kind of screwed my Nexus 4 up but yeah, it did have a warning.
