my nexus 6p is on android beta, can i transfer things to a new phone?

just the above really, im aware you can't roll back to non-beta OS while keeping data, but i want to keep things like contacts

Contacts should be in your Google Account.

You should be able to do a backup to your Google account. This will save things like contacts and which apps you have, etc. and then when you sign in on the same Google account on a new phone, it should restore those things.

And as Laura said above, contacts sync automatically with the primary Google account on the phone, no backup needed.

Can't speak to the "transfer to new phone" function on the beta as I haven't used it

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to use 'Settings -> Google -> Set up nearby device' like you normally would.
