My notification tone is different from what I've set it to in sound settings

I've just updated the OS on my Samsung Galaxy S4 from kitkat to 5.0.1 (lollipop, I believe?) and I've noticed the notification sound has been reset to the factory default (whistle tone) despite my custom tone still being selected in the sound settings menu.

My custom ringtone still works fine, but whenever I receive a text/email/get any notification, I'm getting the default whistle tone.

I've tried updating my settings and resetting my phone, but that hasn't worked either. I'm just confused because both my ringtone and notification tone are custom sounds I've imported via a micro SD card, so why is one of them working fine and the other not?

I've looked through all my sound settings to make sure none of them were switched to the factory default and they've all remained how I've set them. I can even hear the sample sound clip when I select the tone in the list.

I know it's aesthetic preference, but I quite dislike the default whistle tone and would like to switch it back to my custom tone asap. Can you help me?

Re: My notification tone is different from what I've set it to in sound settings

Welcome to Android Central! Are the notifications that aren't working stored only on the SD card? If so, move the tone to the Notifications folder on Internal Storage. I encountered someone else with this problem, where the phone couldn't find tones on the SD card any more on Lollipop.
