I have been a faithful BB user for the past 4 years... While I do not hate blackberry, I played with a Droid X at my sisters Verizon Wireless store last month when I was home visiting..Needless to say it left me with what I have become to refer to as Droid X envy..... I ordered one yesterday, but its on backorder... Any tips or recommends would be seriously appreciated... I am tech support for all things Blackberry at my work... starting over is not the easiest of things to do... I am super pumped about this! Thanks guys!

Congrats!

I should be getting my X any day now as well. I've been hearing that the backorder status is only a few days, not weeks. But with the BOGA sale that Verizon has been running on the Fascinate, who knows if that has increased the number of X's ordered.

The main thing is to get out of the BB mentality of doing things, and how things should work... First thing, don't worry about how much free memory you have and what apps and processes is running or showing up in the app manager. Android is very efficient at managing it's resources. Many Verizon reps will push Task Killer apps and their Screen Protectors, lol. You don't need either of them.

Come to the forums for any advice or help. :)

Oh, one other thing. The X comes with the Swype keyboard as the default keyboard installed. I suggest you watch a few vids on youtube to see what it is about, then try it out when your X arrives. You can go to the standard Android keyboard which will behave more like your BB keyboard by long pressing in any text entry field and select Input Method, Android Keyboard.

Thanks man. Some really great advice! I love the swype keyboard... That is one of the things that I really messed with when I was playing with it... I was wondering about the task killers, thanks for the clarification!!!

Swype is not the default keyboard. You have to change it from the multi-touch keyboard to Swype.

I would suggest some sort of anti glare screen protector though. I used the car dock without one and it was like having a mirror sitting on the dash. Tried an anti glare screen and everything was so much easier to see outdoors and in the car.

If you angle the screen downward, then any reflections and glare will not be directed right back in your line of sight.

Not sure which BB you have, but I switched from a Storm (1) and what a difference. Everything is faster, easier, brighter. All the apps are way cool, as is the ability to have multiple home screens that you can customize. I can't imagine that Froyo is gonna make it even better.

You're going to be very happy.

I came from a storm 1 afer 2 years of use. I probally send 10-15k emails a year (99% work related). The only thing BB has going for it is the email function. I tried K-9 and MailDroid both would have to ping my email box causing battery drain. I finally just set my work account up on the gmail, it works but it is slower. Does anyone know how often gmail hits my other account for new mail?

Thanks for all of the info guys... I have been a member on crackberry.com since I got my blackberry... nice to find another Forum in the same network where everyone is really willing to help... There is nothing more annoying than people trolling trying to start trouble... so your replies are certainly appreciated..

guys, is there a desktop manager like program for android that works on mac? I have my macbook pro bootcamped and run windows anyway.... just looking for a good option... With Doubletwist, does it allow back ups? I add on average 10-15 numbers into my phone a week for work and I need to make sure that these are backed up (preferably on my computer) I realize you can do the google wireless sync... just wondering... Thanks

I wanted to chime in and say the same thing. It is really refreshing to see a place where someone can ask a question and not get flamed for it. I have used a Blackberry for about a year now (9630,9650) and loved the Crackberry forums. My Droid X shipped Friday and will be here on Tuesday. Can't wait to see what the fuss is all about!

Got mine yesterday, but didn't get to set it up till today.

You're going to enjoy it very much. :)
