My phone can't play audio or videos.

This just started today after I did the 7.1.1 update, but my phone won't play audio or video. The main applications that I've tried are YouTube and the pre-installed Music app. The videos on YouTube will stay black and won't play any audio, and the music will look like it's playing, but it wont make any audio, nor progress on the bar that shows the time of the song. Any suggestions?

Welcome to Android Central! Which device? Is this only with streaming media, or also media files that have been saved to the phone? If it's streaming only, does the same thing happen on both wi-fi and mobile data?

Symptoms of a device that has been updated but has conflicting data from before the update that is causing the device to be buggy after the update.

Boot into stock recovery and choose the "Wipe cache partition" option, wipe only the cache partition. DO NOT FACTORY RESET OR WIPE DATA. Then reboot the device.

If wiping only the cache partition doesn't fix it, backup your important pics and other personal data, then boot back to recovery and choose the factory reset option(DO NOT USE THE FACTORY RESET OPTION IN SYSTEM SETTINGS). After the reset finishes, reboot to system then restore your files, pics and personal data.
