My phone doesnt work

Hi and before i start ranting i would like to thank you any help I may receive. My phone has no signal ... no data connectivity , said its roaming and has an x where the bars are . I have a optimus s , stock. When i go out side it has no bars but as i move downtown i gain full bars sometimes for a 3 or 4 seconds then drop all bars and enter Roaming mode (roaming doesn't give me connectivity , or a signal still no bars ... I called sprint support and am capable of going to get my phone replaced i don't really want to though , as i have a broken leg and cant get anywhere right now. If its an antenna problem where can i find instructions on how i can fix it myself?

p.s. its constantly searching for service

Try this:

Go to Settings> About Phone> Update PRL
Update Profile as well. Each may take a little while to complete. (be patient)
