I bought a used Samsung Galaxy Note 4 half a year ago. It's a little over a year old now in total and it has worked well. When i got it from it's previous owner it looked almost brand new. But about 2 months ago my phone suddenly got a really weird problem. It's almost always impossible for me to receive/send SMS, receive/make call or receive on mobile data. It happens rarely like 2 times a day that my phone actually manages to get connection. And then i get the SMS that were sent when my phone were offline and i'm able to make/receive calls. But it only lasts for a couple of minutes, and then the problem returns. It's extremely annoying and makes my phone almost useless. I have been to repair shops, but haven't been able to figure out the problem. Or even if the problem is cause be a bug in Android or a malfunctioning component. However, since my phone sometimes decides to work, i suspect it's a bug in Android. I have also tried my SIM card in other phones and it works well, so it's not the SIM card that is broken. Since if my phone was broken, it wouldn't have worked on any occasion. Wifi works great always, so it seems to be untouched by it. I really need your help guys. I used a lot of money on this phone and buying a new one would be lame.

Boot your phone into Safe Mode and see if it works normally then. If it does (leave it in safe mode for a few hours to make sure) then you probably have a bad app installed which is messing with your cellular connectivity. If it does not work in safe mode, then it is probably a hardware problem. Did you have anyone open the phone and check to make sure the cellular antenna is securely connected?

Boot S4 in Safe Mode:
  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When "Samsung Galaxy S4" appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
