This isn't more detail. This is now I fixed the problem.
I Turned phone on two days ago to send a text to a contact. keyboard was gone and I could only use microphone to type.
I went to system settings - Language & Inputs. the only thing listed under Keyboard & input Methods was Google Voice Typing. The keyboard was no longer listed, so I could not go back to keyboard typing input. I tried all the web listed fixes but none of them worked. the keyboard was no longer listed in my google Apps. So I went to Google Play Store and under search I said (Keyboard). Google store promptly listed all the free keyboards. I went down the list till I found Gboard - the Google Keyboard. instead of install it said Disabled I tapped Disabled and it ask if I wanted to install it, which I did. after it installed, I went back to Language & inputs and selected Keyboard input. The Phone went back to it's normal operation. So, if nothing else works, try this. Good luck
