I've had this thing for over a month now and want to give some bullets on the good and bad.

Summary - Love the phone minus a few hiccups.

The Good
1. The form factor - I actually love this size phone despite phones going bigger all the time. It's lightweight and feels good in the hand and feels good, not cheap.
2. The camera - Coming from some of the phones with the best cameras (iPhone 6s Plus, G4, S6) I was skeptical based on previous Nexus phones. This camera impresses me. I don't feel like I'm losing much coming from the 3 phones I mentioned. I'd rank it slightly below those 3 but not by much.
3. Stock Android - Of course this is a good feature. The phone is fast when it's fast. (I'll talk more about this below) The ability to uninstall even more Google apps than previous Nexii is also great.
4. Fingerprint scanner - This is better than the s6 and as good as the iPhone 6s plus. It all depends on where you like the button (front vs back). It felt weird at first but now I try to put my finger where the scanner is on all my devices (including iPhone).
5. Doze - Android (or stock Android) is finally starting to catch up to iOS when it comes to standby times. Still not quite there but it's a huge improvement over previous versions of Android.

The Bad
1. The phone slows down a bit at times. When it's fast, it flies and is buttery smooth. But for whatever reason after a month of use, it will start acting up. I click icons and it takes a few seconds to "catch up" or it just has lag. Restarting the phone seems to fix this but it has been happening more than I'm comfortable with lately.
2. Battery life - It has been average at best. It gets me through a day but barely. In the month I've owned it there has been a few days where I had to charge it around 3-4pm because I was under 10%. I'm a pretty heavy user but it still isn't great. I'd say it's better than the Nexus 5 but still nothing to write home about.
3. The screen - I'm not sure if Gorilla Glass 3 is that much worse than 4 but only a month in and my phone has micro scratches all over the front of the screen. They are the type that are only seen in bright light but it's still annoying. My iPhone 6s Plus gets the exact same treatment as this and has no scratches.
4. The Ice color - It is a very cool color but the novelty has worn off. Wish I had gotten black. My Ice is getting some slight discoloration around the edges.
5. My final gripe is about the camera and the double click the power button to launch the camera. The camera takes great shots as I mentioned above but it is extremely slow to Process HDR shots and it isn't nearly as fast as the iPhone or S6 when it comes to locking focus and getting the shot off. The double click to launch thing is also weird. Sometimes I'll press the button once and it launches and other times I'll press it twice and it won't launch then 3 seconds later it pops up when I'm trying to do something.

Overall, the phone isn't perfect, but no phone is. I haven't used a 6P yet but this phone is probably the best Android phone I've ever owned despite the negatives listed above. I'd still highly recommend the phone. Just know there are negatives to every phone. I'll probably give the 6P a try next and see how it compares. Definitely do not hesitate to own this phone if you are on the fence! Don't think I'm picking on the phone with the negatives, I just wanted to give an honest, unbiased review as possible. As someone who owns Android, iOS, and windows devices I think I can give an unbiased position.

Excellent post. I'll add my two cents as well....

The Good:
1. The form factor - Almost perfect. I've come to the conclusion that my Moto X 2nd gen is probably the perfect form factor for my smaller hands (it is slightly shorter than the 5X)....right size screen, curve on the back makes it comfy to hold, and resolution is more than good enough. Anyway, for this year the 5X is the closest to perfect for me :) I always put a case and a screen protector on my device, so phones feel about the same and look about the same (through the screen protectors) across the board so the only thing I notice about this phone is that it is a bit lighter in weight than my X2--which for me feels good.
2. The camera - I'm quite pleased with the camera compared to the Moto X Pure Edition, which produces lovely pics and focusses more quickly. I will agree that focussing takes a bit longer than it should. Hopefully this can be addressed with future software tweaks.
3. Stock Android - I love love love the lack of bloatware. Coming from the 2014 Moto X Pure Edition and then the 2015 Moto X Pure Edition, this was probably one of the bigger factors in choosing this phone.
4. Fingerprint scanner - Never had one, never thought I'd need or want one. Now I love it! It's fast, reliable, and useful (and perfectly placed for my hands).
5. Doze - The less you use the phone, the more impact Doze has on battery life. As a moderate user, I'm loving this new feature.

Thoughts on @Zendroid1's "Bad:"
1. Lag: I've not noticed lag on my device. However, I think perhaps my usage patterns contribute to my experience since I neither game nor watch videos on my phone, plus I have a habit of powering down once a day which likely keeps things fresh and very fast.
2. Battery life: As a moderate user, battery life has been awesome. No complaints whatsoever.
3. Screen: I put zero faith into the claims of scratch and break resistance by Corning--glass is still glass in my book, so I always put a screen protector on my devices along with a Diztronic TPU case. This combination has kept my devices pristine for the last 5-6 years or so.
4. Color: I got black...I always get black or dark blue (previous 2 phones with MotoMaker options for colors) because I'm afraid that light colors will stain. But with a case--also black or dark blue--it matters little except that the phone itself looks like new no matter how old it gets.
5. Final thoughts: Double click of power button launches the camera app 95% of the time for me. No complaints. 5X definitely does take a bit longer to focus than any of my previous cameras--I'd like to see Google address this with software updates. Last, I love that Nexus devices are first to get security updates. I'm cautious in using my phone, but I like knowing that the 5X won't have to wait months to get the "latest" security patches.

All in all, I highly recommend this device. It's reliable, fast, easy to use one-handed, and it keeps up with everything that I need it to do in order to keep me connected, up to date, and continuously learning.

eaccentsac - I'm curious as to why you even have a section listing 'The Bad'. Only of those points are positives (or neutral - i.e. the Color).

You are right. I was following the format of the OP and putting my thoughts in....I'll fix it.

Thanks for pointing that out!

I have seen a lot of posts about lag. Sounds like the same problems my Moto G experienced and I think it has to do with the phone only have 2gb of ram. You are just out running it.

Nope. My moto X 2014/is much smoother. No lag/stuttering like the 5x. Has the same amount of RAM

I'm just spitballing here... I'm not a software developer, but IMO it seems that the software (by this I mean, the Android build on the 5x) just isn't quite there yet. I remember when the original Nexus 5 came out there were lots of issues which slowly dwindled down after some updates and the phone got better and better (for most).

Hopefully, this is the case and months from now we will be looking back at these posts from improved 5x's. 😁

I agree that's why I don't believe it's a RAM issue. It's a software issue that should be correctable

Your X2 also runs Android 6.0? And all the apps that you run on both devices are specifically optimized for 6.0???

While a 6.0 build is out, no I'm on 5.1 on the X2

For most of the complaints about devices on 6.0, my sense is that the app developers are still playing catch up--most apps are still optimized to be used with Lollipop devices.

If you run the device without adding any 3rd party apps (or in safe mode), it should run fast and smooth. That gives you a baseline for performance.

As with all new OS versions (and not just in Android), let's not rule out the little performance tweaks that will come a bit later since we are still what is considered "early adopters." :)

Who is arguing that?

Not knocking either phone. I have--and still love--an X2 but am currently using the 5X as my daily driver.

I'm just saying that comparing the performance of your apps on the X2 (running Lollipop) to the performance of these same apps on the 5X (running Marshmallow) is not exactly an apples to apples comparison....

Users of the X3 on Marshmallow--with 3GB RAM--will face the same hurdle of app devs catching up, and will likely report a less than smooth experience with some apps at the beginning....

I'm not trying to defend the Moto X. My response was in regards to someone mentioning that 2gb RAM isn't enough for the 5x.

But there's problems with everyone's theory on 'app optimization for marshmallow'. Why doesn't the 6P experience any of the lag the 5x does?

I Googled (it still makes me chuckle that that is now a verb) "Nexus 6p lag" and there are some reports of lag--just not as many as with the 5x. If it isn't a RAM issue, then maybe it has to do with the processor?

My quick 2-cents, if people are reading this to help them make a decision on the Nexus 5X, as long as you're good with the small screen size, then it's a great phone. Coming from a OnePlus One, I'm finding the screen a tad small, but I'm giving it a thorough test drive to see if I knew it. Because of the holidays, Google is letting people return in January. So, you can kick the tires and see how you like it.

This is hilarious to me that the 5x is considered to have a "small screen size." I've been using it for well over a month, and it still feels huge to me (coming from Moto X 2013)!
