samsung galaxy note 8 won't boot - can you help me wake it up?

When I press the power button it does the Samsung spec screen, the little pirouetting logo and tune, and then gets to the pulsating white/blue SAMSUNG screen.

usually at this point the little menu and back buttons light up, by the main home button, ready for me to hit the home button, where I can swipe through to my home page.

but this is not happening.

I have tried volume up/ down, battery is fully charged.

memory is pretty full, so I have tried changing sd card and attaching a memory stick, I know, getting desperate here!

really keen not to lose photos, kindle app books, s-note docs so a factory reset is not appealing at all.

I would boot into hboot. Volume up, home, and power until it it goes to showing the little yellow text and it will go into a menu on the screen. Select wipe cache. It will lose your app preferences but you shouldn't lose anything else. The reboot and see if it boots up.
