Welcome to Android Central! You didn't bother to remember the backup password you created? The phone should be asking you periodically for that password anyway for increased security, even if the fingerprint sensor was working normally. It's how the phone security works.

If you dont remember then try remotely unlocking here https://findmymobile.samsung.com/ only if ut signed into your Samsung account on the device , otherwise factory reset in recovery.
