My Samsung tab 3 is locked

my galaxy S 3 is locked. It wouldn't recognize my thumb print and I guess I don't remember my pattern. I tried to do a hard reset, but I can't even turn the unit off. When I press the power button long enough for the turn off option to come up, when I press that the screen to enter the pattern comes up and tells me because I did a restart on the tab, I have to enter the pattern to go any further. I am stuck there.
If I try the hard reset sequences it just reboots or goes nowhere.
Does anyone have an answer for me? Help

Power+ Volume Down will force a reboot.
Power+ Volume Up + Home will boot to Recovery Mode where you can select Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
This is the only way to remove pattern or password if you don't know or forget.
