On my external sdcard in my Samsung S3, I could navigate to it in file manager to storage/extSdcard/DCIM/Camera/..." When I moved the card to a Galaxy S5 it now shows as /storage/6339-3638/DCIM/Camera/...". Why the name change? Is there a way to name is something logical again like "extSDcard"?

Assuming it's formatted as an external card, try using ES File Explorer to rename it.
If it's formatted as an internal card, don't try - you'll probably have to reformat it and start over with a blank card (and maybe a dead phone).
