How are you trying to access the photos or videos? Do they show up in the Gallery app, or the Google Photos app? Is the Camera app saving to Internal Storage or the SD card by default?
Keep in mind that sending videos via text message usually results in an extremely low quality video or an error, because the maximum file size you can attach to an MMS message is about 1 MB. To send a video, upload it to your Google Photos (or some other cloud service) and share the link with them. Or get them on a different messaging platform that supports video messages better (like Telegram).
