My stock Evo does landscape mode in Sense

...well, kind of.

I use ChompSMS for texting and I think its the best one out there...especially now with the new popup notifications. I just noticed this morning that when I receive a text popup while my phone is standing up on the kickstand, my stock Sense homescreen goes into landscape mode in the background! Obviously, as soon as I close out of the message the homescreen goes back to vertical mode. I WANT IT TO STAY. I started a thread a few weeks ago on the subject and concluded that though Launcher Pro and ADW do allow landscape, they are still a bit buggy/laggy. I wonder if Sense will ever allow it or if perhaps 2.1 will speed up the device enough to make ADW or LP more usable.

Now, if the ChompSMS popup can somehow jolt my Sense UI to go landscape, I have to assume that its built into the system somehow (just like the third party launchers) and just disabled...correct? Do any of the FroYo root builds allow landscape?

I would think it would be an easy jack,might not look great with all the widgets but I'd deal with it.

Yeah, I didn't think about widgets, good point. Damnit. You would think that a phone with a kickstand would have a "desk mode" built into it.

You really don't. My EVO does that with CM6 and it is annoying as hell now. It is cool for the first 2-3 times but then it becomes really unpractical and has a mind of its own everytime it comes out of your pocket.
