My Take on the LG G2

After reading a few forums worth of information since the day the phone came out, I decided to go and get it (on Verizon). I've had it for 3 days now and I think I've messed with just about everything there is to mess with on the phone, so for what it's worth, here is my take on it listed in order of importance to me.

TL/DR:
Pros:
Battery life, Signal strength, Camera, Screen (when it works)

Cons:
Bluetooth audio quality, Screen (when the touch sensor goes nuts)

Full Version:
Battery life:
Coming from a RAZR MAXX HD, I was wondering if this phone could stand up to what that phone gave me. Being a moderate to heavy user throughout the day, I just want a phone that I can unplug and not even have to think about the battery. I've noticed that Play Store and downloading apps takes the most power out of any type of usage on this phone and rightly so as it downloads apps in no time at all (it is blazing fast). Going from 7AM-1AM, I've gotten down to 20-30% before charging and that's enough of a cushion for me. The phone sitting in standby is very efficient too and barely consumes any power.

Signal Strength/Quality:
The signal strength was a big wonder for me. Coming from a Motorola, I was expecting it to be noticeably worse since we all know Moto radio quality is pretty up there. I was pleasantly surprised that its about the same for 4G, and a little better for 3G. Wifi strength is great as well. Very happy with the signal, in my area at least. If anyone tells you that it's going to be crappy quality, don't believe them. It's pretty top notch.

Camera:
As many have said, this camera is amazing. Being a photographer, I consider myself a pixel peeper (or someone that is very picky about the quality of a photo). No its not DSLR levels of course, but its darn good for a smart phone; better than any other phone camera I've used. Low light doesn't seem to be an issue for my uses, and HDR mode works very good for those challenging scenes.

Bluetooth streaming (to car stereo):
Very disappointed. It sounds like terribly low bit rate sound quality. I have a Hyundai Genesis Coupe with the upgrade infinity sound system. I get a lot of static and distortion in loud highs (guitar solos, drum/cymbals, high pitch voices). This is comparable sound quality to my old Galaxy Nexus which was horrible and I'm shocked to hear the same crappy sound 2 years later. The RMHD had comparable sound quality to a CD or Satellite radio, where as this phone sounds like AM radio.

Screen:
Amazing. I have no complaints about the clarity or color. Its simply beautiful. I was used to having the saturation of an LED screen on the Razr Maxx HD, and although its not THAT saturated, it's more true to life colors. I do have the touch screen issue where it goes haywire while using it. I just wait a sec and it fixes itself, but the fact that it goes berzerk is disappointing. Also, when I knock on and then swipe to open, sometimes it turns back off. I've made conscious note to avoid the sensor and to make sure it wasn't that, and it still does it maybe 25% of the time.

If any one has any questions or is still on the fence, just ask!

Edit: Added picture of screen going nuts. I know there's a thread on here about it, but I don't think there's a fix yet.

I use Rocket Player for all music and it sounds fantastic via BT on my car stereo.

I'm concerned about your bluetooth sound quality as I don't find this to be an issue in my car at all. Screen issue as well why not exchange it while you can?

Those 2 issues aside how do you like the phone?

Clearly it isn't just T-Mobile. Interesting, nice review by the way. Very well organized.

Admittedly, I haven't tried music that is on my phone to the car, just Pandora and Spotify, but I will test this on lunch and adjust my findings above if necessary, but considering I got a nice full sound from my RMHD using both, this is certainly a step backward in quality.

Those two issues aside, I love it. its crazy fast, doesn't give a **** how many apps you're downloading, or how intensive of a game you're playing (though candy crush is as "intense" as that's gotten so far), or what else you're doing, it still doesn't slow down or even lag. It's a beast. It does get a little hot sometimes but no more so than my RMHD did and certainly not as hot as the Gnex. I love the phone overall. If they could fix the touch screen issue and the whole "turn phone on, swipe, phone turns off" issues, then I think this would be just about the perfect phone. And as far as exchanging it, I figure if its defective, I can exchange it whenever I want, even after 14 days. I'm just trying to spend enough time with it that I can make a decision if I want to head toward the Droid Maxx or not. I'm not a Moto fanboy or anything, and I'll be the first to admit, they are a very mediocre phone, but they just work, and reliably at that.

What issue are you referring to that it isn't just T-Mobile? The spazzy screen? It's done that to me 5 times. Twice in the Facebook app, twice when moving apps around on my homescreens, and once in Candy Crush. It seems like those are the 3 most sensitive areas. Sometimes it'll "almost" go spazzy or gets really sensitive and glitch maybe like once, but the stroke it had last night was pretty severe.

@Goingcarcrazy

Spazzy screen. I've gone through 4 LG G2s and they all seem to do it. I thought it was just a T-Mobile issue but it appears to me more than that.

I am gonna wait until Tuesday to decide on what I do with the phone.

Also one thing I've learned is when it goes crazy if you turn off the screen and turn it back on the issue immediately fixes temporarily. I do this and sometimes I won't have an issue for hours, sometimes the entire day. But I have noticed the issue a lot more when the screen is on for a long duration if time.

I'm sort of thinking that it IS a heat related issue, which kinda makes me cringe and worry since that would indicate hardware rather than software.

I'm not sure why you state bt as a con. This phone has the latest bt technology and kills my ip5.

i have seen that picture and assumiung you are the one that made the video? I tried to replicate it many times and i am able to draw a straight line each time. I guess its a random occurrence? As you stated the battery i think is better than my note 2 and the sheer speed of everything is amazing.

I'm talking about the bluetooth connectivity to a cars stereo. The sound quality is terrible. Razr Maxx HD sounded really good when connected, but this, it sounds like the highs are getting compressed so much that there is distortion in the form of static and hissing. I tried plugging it into my computer speakers at home with a double ended headphone jack and it sounded great, so I can only attribute it to the bluetooth connectivity. I'll try hard-plugging it into the AUX port in the car and see if that's any better.

Someone else did that test a while back (where I got the idea from) so when I caught it happening (and once I figured out how to get to Qnote) I did the same test with that result. As you can see it was done at 12:18AM last night. It usually does draw straight lines, but when it starts freaking out, it draws them like that. You can see the line on the right is where it fixed itself. It straightened out and calmed down. Its like the phone has seizures or something. I think this sensitivity may have something to do with the turn on, swipe and it turns off thing too because multiple times even if the line is straight, it might skip and so when knocking on, it might take that skip in touch as a double touch, hence a knock-off. I dunno, all theories, but more playing will ensue. Not giving up on it yet at all. Just gotta figure it out.

Not an issue for me using Rocket Player music app. Sound is full and rich.

As for bluetooth, I first tried mine in the car via bluetooth thought it sounded fine, then tried the auxiliary port and noticed no difference in sound. Of course sound is very subjective but it sounds like there might be an issue with your phone.

Also I haven't seen the screen issue. I am on a T-Mobile unit.

I agree with what you said about this phone though, it just flies. I can't believe all the mediocre reviews on it. I think if the name said iPhone the reviewers would have had their minds blown.

Yeah I'm going to try that and see how it goes.

As for the screen spaz, just happened again while I was in CarBuzz app. Just scrolling down the page and it just started jumping. Screen a little warm. I drew the lines top to bottom (including the one that stops half way down, just didn't register for half the stroke). I turned the phone off and then back on and the blue line on the left shows the result. So strange. On the upside, its 4:45 in the afternoon and I'm still at 82%! Razr Maxx HD didn't even do that.

Next time this happens try to turn off the screen and turn it back on. See if it temporarily fixes it.

I'm really thinking its screen on time.

On the left is a blue line that's straight. That's from turn the screen off and back on again. Does the GRAM have anything to do with touch screen?

I don't know what the "GRAM" is other than a unit of measurement. I somehow think that's not what you're referring to.

Isn't it the Adreno 330? I think it's the same as the Note 3 isn't it?

My screen spazzez out every now and then also. Almost seems like it's an ultra sensitivity issue
