My first week with the G6. Really like this phone. So glad I jumped out of the S7E. I love the flat screen & the edges that are not rounded. The battery life is amazing. I just feels good in my hand. The phone never gets warm when charging wireless or on the wall adapter. I really like the double tap to wake up/sleep. I liked that on my v10. The downsides are small & mostly workable. I really miss the LED light. I have to turn up the notification sound so I do not miss any. I miss root. This is the longest I think I have been without root but it also is workable. Root is being worked on for H872 but if it does not come I will survive. Anyway, my short, rambling thoughts.

Thank you for your review! I held a model at a Wireless Wave here in Canada, and it truly did feel very nice in the hand. I don't have the G6, but am interested in it; but I know I'd miss the LED notification light. My G3 had the double tap to unlock feature as well, and holy moly I miss that! Glad you are loving your phone!

The double tap makes the lack of LED a bit better. I just wake my screen without picking the phone up. What phone are you using now?

Awesome! That is a good workaround. I really miss that double tap feature!

I am currently using a white Honor 8 that I love; but am already planning what phone to buy next year. So far, it's down to the G6, HTC U11, and maybe an Axon 8; depending on what it's like when it comes out. I was also thinking about the Z2 Play but I'm not sure at the moment.

Welcome to the G6 owners club. It's nice to see a similar sentiment about the device. I also came from an S7 edge (a minor stint with the S8) and am completely satisfied with my decision. For months, I worried myself about cracking the edges on my S7. My device was never busy enough to benefit from the edge panels, so I don't miss it.

The G6 is a solid performer inside and out. Perfect weight, size and fit in hand. Excellent rear cameras. Not too heavy on the UI and uneccesary apps.

For me, it's a near perfect phone.

(I still want a portrait mode like the iPhone 7 plus, but I knew I wasn't getting it.)

thanks for the review i was close to buying it but 2 things kept me from doing so for now:

1. no LED notification - would be workable like someonone said
2. Not having root - that's a huge no go for me I need apps like Titanium Backup Pro and xposed improvements

if the phone gets root it would be an instant buy the question is, can the austrian version be rooted?

It's crazy how this phone keeps lodging itself into Samsung owners hands. I love it so much more than my previous S8+. Feels more fluid and quick and I love the flat screen.

since you were on the s7edge like i am. how are you liking the camera. it seems it has a problem with more blurred pictures than the s7edge. also the the one i tested had an awful front camera. pictures looked like they were from a 2009 phone (and that's being generous). the s7edge has a lot more detail with the front facing camera.

I've been very pleased with the s7e camera. supposed to get my g6 today and I will post some feedback

I ordered the G6 for my daughter and played with it a bit. I will say it's the best looking phone from LG, ever. I like the double Knock screen on and off, wish Samsung would copy that from LG.

I stayed with my S8 plus, I like the edge features to much. Comparing the lg G6 to the S8 is apples and oranges just from the edge screen perspective. I think if Samsung did what they should have done and have the S8 flat screen and S8 plus edge screen there would be a different conversation going on here. The display is good on the G6 but it's not Samsung good.

Don't get me wrong, not saying the G6 is a bad phone, I think its a great phone, best one LG has released, I just don't think there would be as many Samsung people switching if there was an S8 flat screen, which IMO comparing the S8 to the LG is apples and oranges, the S8 is in a world of their own right now, until Apple releases their curved screen this year.

If your looking for a great flat screen phone, the G6 is it, hands off to LG on this one, so far it's a great phone.

I couldn't agree more... I would've purchased a flat GS8, but Sammy didn't make one, so I bought the LG G6 instead.

I don't get the gimmick of curved edges. I don't see what value or added benefit they have. It looks cool for a few days and then the impracticality of it sets in and you're left with a very fragile device.

If anyone can explain the purpose of them I'd be interested in figuring this whole curve sensation out.

Agreed. If they come out with a decent S8 active on ATT I may look at that. I really don't like the curves edges. Unfortunately, I think we are in the minority

The active does look good and I actually liked last year's alot after the water issues were resolved. If they don't use that polycarbonate screen again I may look at one and unlock it for T-Mobile.

Well maybe it's a gimmick to some, but here are my reasons I love it. And I love the idea I can open any of these on any screen, complete the task and return to the exact thing I was doing before I activated an edge app. I don't have to back out of what I was doing to use a calculator, change a setting. It just eliminates a step or 2. I also love soft key edge shown below, I can take a screen shot without having to hold 2 buttons, one handed, oh yeah!!

But you really don't need a curved screen to accomplish that. They could add the edge apps on a flat screen just as easily.

that's exactly what i figured. why curve something unnecessarily? just makes it annoying when you accidentally touch the edge and it registers and destroys something you're working on or doing on your phone like what's happened to me so many times. i HATE the edge screen on my phone. i was so looking forward to getting a flat s8 until i found out there will be none...

You know how many times I accidently touch the screen edge and mess things up? Zero times, this isn't the S6 edge. And by having it on the edge makes it so it's more out of the way, don't accidently trigger it all the time, on a flat screen the edge bar would be more on the screen even if you could have it hidden there would be more accidental hits on that screen. I have used the app below on flatscreen phones, I put the hidden swipe bar on bottom right corner. Worked good, but I did have accidental touches with the app, I just prefer the edge.

I don't want to change this to the S8 is better, I wanted to just point out if Samsung would have been smart, they would have continued offering the flat screen version also.

The G6 is a very nice phone for those that want flat screens, very nice to hold, very nice looking, and so far very good working. The G6 is a game changer for LG, IMO.
