Unless you value the hours of your time that you save when you transfer everything automatically. The process went very smoothly for me, as it almost always does. In the rare event that it doesn't, you can always factory-reset and then try a different approach.
 
okay to sync contacts and pics, etc. but syncing apps can lead to issues that require a factory reset. clean new apps and all else can sync.

No need to restore contacts or photos if you keep those on Google. But restoring apps by hand can take hours, and doing it automatically is usually fine. Why not try it automatically first, and resort to a manual installation only if it proves necessary?
