I've had my V20 all of six weeks and yesterday when I was doing some recording with the phone sitting on the table I noticed it had rebooted. When I went to put my tap code the screen was black and unresponsive. It's dead. I can't do anything with it. It won't boot it doesn't vibrate. Nothing.

The first thing I did was put it on the charger. Nothing. The second thing, I pulled out the battery and checked it. The third thing, I tried every button combo with the battery in as well as out. Still no response.

I bought it from a third-party seller so there's probably no warranty.

Any suggestions?

Was it supposed to be new or refurbished?
Your new or refurbished V20 should be under some form of LG warranty if purchased just 6 weeks ago from an authorized dealer.

I was brand new wrapped in the box. But like I said, the purchase was not from an authorized dealer.

Most 3rd party sellers give at least a 30 day warranty.

If you have one, the only choices are a repair shop or a new phone.

You said you plugged the charger in. Did you leave it in for at least 8 hours? (If you totally drained the battery, it could take that long to charge.)

I got my V20 working again. It turns out that the phone I bought was a "refurbished water damaged" phone that I bought from that "third party" seller that he swore was "brand new" . The gentleman that repaired it revealed these things go to me. He showed me where moisture had turned the tag red (I never introduced it to any liquid). Then he was certain it looked like it had been previously heated to get the solder to reset (discolouration of the metal). I can't prove any of this of course but the repairman seemed like he knew his stuff.

Anyway, he reheated the motherboard to re-run the solder again and it fired right up afterwards. So much for honest resellers. He also suggested that he couldn't promise how long it would stay working and that that process could only be done a few times. He also said I should sell it immediately.

My thinking is that I couldn't really do that. That would kind of make me like the guy that sold it to me. He also said I could change the motherboard which a really not that expensive. $125.

I really love thus phone. I didn't actually need a new one. My G5 is working perfectly. I wanted the features the V20 offered that the G5 did not.

Third party seller = unknown history. The phone could've been a repaired phone, we really don't know. Check with LG, it's very possible it's still under warranty.. it depends on the serial number. They will give you exactly 1 year, maybe a little longer. Try live chat with them and ask. Don't say you got it from a 3rd party, just say you lost the receipt.

BTW check the water damage sticker (small white/red circle sticker) on back of phone and the battery. If it has water damage or has been tampered, LG won't touch it.

If it's brand new then it should be under warranty still. I think the warranty starts when you first activate and use the phone.

Next time don't buy phones from a "repair shop". That's like buying a used car that was damaged from a flood. You may save a few bucks but you get what you pay for. V20s are very cheap nowadays.. brand new the last I checked was $280... $200 used.

Dude! I never said I did so. I bought it from a "third party" seller that said, and assured me it was brand new, sealed in the box which I now know to be untrue. The repair shop I brought it to was to repair it. They did repair it. I'm still using it. Thanks for stating the obvious. And you're right. They are really cheap now. As was the case when I grabbed this one. The thing is... I need to buy my next one from a place I know I can trust and not some random seller on Kijiji.
