I have had the phone since release. It is rooted. I am on 4.3. I use Nova Launcher. No pirated apps.

Lots is going wrong or has changed, I'll provide all the info I can.
-Today I got a notification(can't recall exactly) that my text or MMS data could not be downloaded and to check some settings.
-When I attempted to clear I could not get a response from my phone, the buttons worked, but my touches and swipes were either unresponsive or extremely delayed.
-When I held the button to restart I noticed the pop-up looked different, it is now a full-screen window with "Phone options" and an X at the top. The only options are "Power Off", "Airplane Mode", "Restart". The usual options in the popup are not there.
-Upon rebooting I noticed the tiny grey permissions pop-up that says, "_____ now has root privileges" was rotating between a couple notifications quite quickly.
-It was still unresponsive so I rebooted 3 more times.
-I pulled out the s-pen and the phone was perfectly responsive, and still is, to it's touch.
-I pulled back the factory screen cover and at first it responded to my fingers, but now it is the same as with it on.
-I received a phone call from an existing contact and notice that screen was also completely different. Instead of the picture and slide options, it was a dark black, full screen window with two much smaller answer/hangup icons and the contacts name. I put them to voicemail and it operated correctly.

I initially thought it was a failing screen, but the odd looking graphics make me think otherwise. I checked my recent updates and nothing that would affect visuals was updated today. Help!

Did you ever figure out what happened to your phone. Mine just did the same exact thing, so I searched the forum and found this thread.
I am not rooted. But, my phone is doing everything you stated above.

**UPDATE** Since I couldn't find anything else on this topic that didn't say to do a hard reset and the phone was working minutes before this started happening, I went and uninstalled two apps that were recently updated that I don't really use - VSCO Cam and Light Manager.
I rebooted my phone and it works again. :)
