My vpn icon showed up - connection now slow. How can I get it going faster?

vpn icon showed up - connection now slow

About two weeks ago I noticed that my tablet connections were going slow. Podcast updates that should take 20 seconds taking two minutes, connection to Chromecast timing out, Youtube timeouts, etc. I noticed at this time that a small key had showed up in my notification tray. Upon googling, found out this was a vpn icon. I have not activated or added any sort of vpn connection on this tablet, in fact when I go to the vpn settings, it tells me I can't even add one until I set up a screen lock, which I haven't. Anyone able to shine a light on how to fix this?

VPN settings are usually under the network settings. VPN networks can help hide your traffic but are known to cause slow downs.

It could be an app causing that.Try booting up your phone in safe mode and then see if it still happens.There are instructions on the internet about going into safe mode.Google up your phone/tablet's manufacturer and model to see that.Have a good day
