I am frustrated with my N1 again. I use it for work e-mail and personal e-mail which is not a g-mail account and all I want to do is add a simple contact but cant do it. I need to add it to my work account or create a g-mail account which I have no interest in doing. I ended up creating a google account with my personal e-mail address so I could use the calendar, but I do not now want to have another google account (g-mail) to have an address book. This is worse than apples grasp over the iPhone.

Is there something I am missing, or is google becomming big brother?

I'm new to android but let me ask: to summarize, you want to add a contract to your personal, non-google email acct, correct? What technology/interface does this run on? Can you get to it via a browser? If so, can you use the android browser versus the pop client (or IMAP or whatever it is?) to create it directly?
I do think Google is the next IBM/Microsoft that everyone loves to hate because of their huge influence. I KNOW they are going to serve the gmail/google centric stuff first and best. However, they do leave things fairly open. Android, for example, is open source. There is NOTHING keeping someone from writing an interface or native app on Android to help you do what you want (maybe it exists, dunno). But that doesn't mean it will happen either.

So to your question, yeah, big brother - ish. But in a newer, more open/transparent way.

If you can state more about the type of mail account it is, somebody here who knows way more than me can possibly point to a solution.

Just export your contact list to a format that is google compatible and import it to your google account. No need to create another account.

Where in google can I import it to?

Since I do not have g-mail linked to my google account I can not find an address book feature. I found google contacts beta which looks promising, but it does not link to the N1 yet.
