N4 battery life after 4.3 upgrade - hint: not an improvement

Okay, the 4.3 upgrade's been pretty disasterous (on the n4 at least). My partner has a galaxy nexus, and his OTA arrived 2 weeks before mine and went off without a hitch. I finally got the OTA 2 days ago, and it threw my phone into a boot loop. The system would boot to the lockscreen and then just reboot after I entered my pass pattern. Found a recommendation online for downloading the upgrade and force installing it with fastboot. That brought my phone back - with no data loss. So far so (almost) good. Seriously, if I weren't geeky enough to find the solution and understand it well enough to carry it out, I'd have a brick today. Great work Google. This is your latest flagship phone - don't you test this ****?

Anyway, I'm on 4.3 now, and the phone seems (possibly) a little smoother. But. Battery life is noticeably worse. The phone seems to run warm and the battery drains constantly. I just sat through a movie with the phone supposedly asleep in my pocket, and when I came out it had dropped from 45% to 25%. I used to get really good battery life on this phone. Something's gone south. How do you go about reporting these problems to Google?

Probably a rogue app that hasn't been optimized for 4.3. Just go through the regular routine - identify wake locks, check usage percentages. Etc.

Sent from my Nexus 4 using AC Forums mobile app

Really? I did find one app that accounted for 10% of the drain. What does an app need to do to 'optimize for 4.3'? I thought this was a minor upgrade to jellybean. If it's going to mess with app background behavior, don't you think they should warn us to hold off on the upgrade? At least sites like AC ought to warn folks about problems.

For what it's worth, wake lock detector showed Google's News and Weather widget at the top of its usage list. Killed it - hopefully that'll help. But again, if a Google app isn't ready for 4.3, then 4.3 isn't ready for release

Found it. The system *backup* process was running constantly. Disabling 'backup to Google' got my phone to sleep again. Known problem? Fixable?
