Well, lesson learned, and I should have put my phone in a water proof location, even though I was only taking a "short nap" before rejoining the party.
I should add that I was camping out at a Rennaisance festival near Houston, TX, and do most of my camping in a hammock. Having left my phone on my chest to wake me up, I ignored the alarm, and slept until something woke me up. My rainfly was wrapped around me, and as I found out later, I was swinging between 45 degrees off vertical, and bloody near horizontal. Eventually bailed, grabbed my bag, and hid in a friend's tent while he held his tent up. Aparently we were rather near an F1 tornado... lost quite a few tents, and I don't feel so bad for bailing on swinging my hammock.
Long story short, my phone was off in the morning, and completely soaked. Red light for about a second when plugged into a car charger. I took off the back cover the next day, and tucked it all into a bag of rice for the better part of a week.
I still get the red light on for a better part of second, though it feels like the wall charger warms up a little bit while I leave it charging.
I have it dismantled again, and when I finish with a friend's baby swing (apparently it has a motor and some wires need soldering??) I'll put in a replacement battery I picked up. Any hope, or do I just place an order for an N5 after pondering if something waterproof is better suited towards my lifestyle, and my propensity to finding myself in oddball situation.
Or just maybe keep a waterproof bag around when I'm not safe and sound inside a building of modern construction.
