N7 Rooting, Why?

Can we have a discussion for n00bs of the functionality & advantages of rooting a N7. What could I do that I can't do now? Thanks from a newbie.

I don't really have any interest in other roms, it's pretty much already pure Google Android with no bloat. My main reason is for USB storage and titanium backup. I'd also hate for something really cool to come down the pipe later and have to debate on rooting/reset to get the cool "thing" or keeping my settings/apps/files.

On the N7 since it's a Nexus device and the updates will come directly from Google (presumably in a timely fashion since carriers aren't involved) the only real reason to unlock and root is custom roms/kernels.

At least that's the only reason I would for a Nexus device besides just cuz I can.
