NANDROID backup questions

I have some questions related to the NANDROID backup process which I found to be simple and strait forward but I can't seem to find some answers.

1) When making a NANDROID backup I noticed the dates are from the year 1970. Is that normal? Is there a way to change it without compromising the file?

2) After doing my first NANDROID restore I was a little surprised to see folders created by apps still in the root sdcard0 even though they were not part of the backup. I thought I understood the NANDROID backup was something similar to a disc image you would make of a computer hard drive. I was expecting everything to be identical to when I made the backup.

3) I was looking at using the ROM Manager by ClockworkMod to perform future backups but it is asking me to install clockworkmod recovery. I am confused because this was installed as part of the root process. I used CWM-Recovery-LTE-SGS3-v5.tar.md5 from this forum. Is this a version issue? It's not a big issue now as I prefer the default recovery mode but when I take the next step to flashing custom ROMs it could come in handy.

I rooted the phone using the process posted here. http://forums.androidcentral.com/us-cellular-galaxy-siii/192501-how-root-us-cellular-samsung-galaxy-s3.html

SCH-R530U running stock 4.1.2 that has been rooted.

The default nandroid backup dates are always wonky. I would use ROM Manager. You can edit the backup names with it.

The nandroid backup is a complete image of the state of your device at the time the backup is made.

Go ahead and let ROM Manager install the current version of CWM and life will be good.

Went ahead and updated it without problems. Backup dates are now current instead of from 1979. I thought it would be okay but just being overly cautious as I am still getting my feet wet. Next stop is a custom ROM and maybe even create an app or widget. I'll see if I can knock the rust off my programming skills from yesteryear.

I love this phone and OS. It seems like there are endless possibilities to tinker.

Thank you for your help.

Glad it worked. I've gotten in the habit of making two nandroids before moving to a new ROM or other potentially destructive actions. I learned the hard way once when the one backup I had was corrupted.

Good luck on your development.
