So my boyfriend had to get a new phone. He now has a LG Optimus G.

After two weeks of using it, he is pissed off that the Navigation App is gone from the phone.
To be clear, we did check the app list and also the apps that were running/downloaded/all.

Nothing and it is nowhere to be found. The last time he used it was last night and now, it is gone completely.

He is really upset and has tried to do a soft reset on his phone. We also tried to update the maps app and it is already up to date.

He does not want to reset his phone to factory state again for the third time for other issues.

What can he do?

(Sorry if I sound annoying but, he is getting on my nerves and typically with all his other android questions I can answer it, just not this one)

This is from the Maps update that happened yesterday. Navigation is now built into Maps instead of being a separate icon, just launch Maps and set up a route and you'll see what I mean.

With latest update Google map may change few things

In Google map there is an arrow next to contact icon on search bar
I think that's Navigation

Well that is convenient. I am going to miss that icon when I have to update my phone *refuses*

It is in Beta. Google you need to make things optional. Your are making my boyfriend scream profanities because it does not work...well

Could be worse. Could be Apple Maps or Bing Maps.

I still have the Navigation icon, but it's not the interface is not as nice as it used to be. It's basically a "directions" shortcut from Maps. The ability to swipe to your contacts addresses is no longer there. Recent locations and home is still available, but I still miss the old interface.

I always use Google maps...hope that's not the future: +)
I used waze w my iPhone

That's weird, I still have the Navigation icon on one of my home screens, although it works the same as Google Maps.

If you have Navigation its because you still have the older/previous version of Google Maps. The most recent update did away with Navigation as a separate App and instead has it built into Maps.

Personally, I think this is great. You can search Maps, get directions and navigation all from the same place without having to open a separate App.

I hope the fix it the interface sucks right now.

Are you referring to the Navigation interface or the overall Maps interface? Perhaps the settings interface can use some tweaking, but for what it is, works great and is not cluttered with menu items. It's the first public release of this refresh so I'm sure Google will look to make enhancements as they receive feedback.

Contact option is missing you have to type there name in to find them then even tho you have a correct address that worked fine on old nav its not showing the right place on maps its off by a half mile on some addresses also what's what the blue line on traffic is that a glitch or is that suppose to be green? They should give you option to test beta till they get it a little better.

Blue one should be travel line if you are using Navigation.

I get what you mean about updates. I tend to wait for a few days on certain apps before updating to see what the reviews show.

Blue is the travel line but when I have it set to show traffic it showed blue, yellow and red instead of green, yellow and red.

He has to find bigger problems in his life to complain about.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and it wasn't broke in my opinion. I had the update finally show up in my play store, but I'm holding off until I see a reason to. The new features don't really do me any good.

Don't fix it? It's called upgrading. Google are doing some serious changes at the moment and they will not be to everyone's taste.

Plenty of choices. Accept, don't update or *spit* apple.

I personally like the new maps/nav function. Used it today, and it was perfect, GPS totally accurate, nice interface...

Obvs, there will be more enhancements, but give it time.

The loss of latitude and non-working location is a bad point ( see my separate post), but they will have to fix that before Aug 9th.

And, if a Google map update makes your partner cry, I'd suggest some counselling.

When I try to launch Navigation by tapping the old blue pointer icon or going through Maps directly, the app doesn't work. If I select a to/from location to map, it just spins and ultimately advises there's no network connection - but there is! Even stranger is that when I rotate my phone to use the pull-out keyboard, the screen refreshes and whatever I've already typed or selected is erased. Does anybody else have this problem and fixed it? If so, please advise how. Thanks.

Does Google really test these changes before they push them out???
