I saw it from XDA developers this morning on YouTube that Android version of airdrop is being tested right now. It's from the application files to go by Google and the play store. I'm including some screenshots below. My question is this: both applications of almost identical. The one files app that comes stock on our pixel, and this other files to go app in the play store which has a sharing option. It's basically a peer-to-peer Wi-Fi direct connection between two Android phones. Why can't the stock file app on the phone have this? It seems redundant to literally have both on the phone at once lol.

My suspicion is that once they finish working on Nearby Sharing, the feature will become native, so the stock file manager will be able to use it (and possibly any other app that uses the API). As of now, you can share files wirelessly with other people with the Files by Google app, but that requires you to install that app.

Well see now that would be awesome! Not two of the same apps on one phone.
