Need battery draining app issue help

I am now using a T-Mobile GS-7 Edge. I have had this issue on two GS-6 and a GS-5. This is my third operating system. On kitkat I was fine, on lollipop the issue started and stayed up to current day. An application is causing my apps not to auto update even though I have all of my setting to auto update. They will sit in a "pending" status. I can watch my battery draining and feel my phone heat up until I go in and force update my apps in the play store. I can't figure out which app is causing the issue. I've removed all of my old apps. Is there a diagnostic tool or someone out there that can help? Google tech support, T-Mobile store associates and phone tech support cannot figure out what is causing this. I'm despite and about to switch to Apple.

Re: Need battery draining app issue help

I had a similar problem with my google account syncing chrome. I would suggest clearing the cache partition on your phone or going into the main settings menu>applications>clear data. Is every app in a pending state or just a few?

Re: Need battery draining app issue help

I've done that. It is basically any and every app in the play store. Whenever an app tries to update it doesn't. It drains my battery and sits. I have to hit update all or update each individual app to force the update.

Does the problem persist in Safe Mode?

No. That is why I believe it is an app. I can't for the life of me figure out which one.

Any other help would be nice. I don't want to switch to Apple but might if I can't figure this out.

It's quite difficult to know for sure which app is causing this issue. I will start for the usual suspects, task killers, battery savers, antivirus... Do you have any app checked in settings - security - device administrators?

I don't have any third party apps for task killers or Antivirus. I have the stock premium Lookout and the app optimization Samsung preloads. This is what the device admin has.

Re: Need battery draining app issue help

Nothing there. Does it happen when you're using mobile data, WiFi or both? What option do you have selected in the Play Store for auto update? Does it make a difference if you select to update over WiFi only? Have you installed any connection optimiser or a similar app for WiFi or mobile?

This is a strange problem and I've never seen it reported before so excuse all the questions. I'm just trying to narrow the search.

Re: Need battery draining app issue help

I feel I'm missing something here. There are some things that make your problem very strange. It passes from phone to phone, everything is fine in safe mode and your battery drains trying to auto update on the Play Store. This combination makes some of the usual fixes useless, including factory reset.

Have you managed to see in your battery stats which apps are high on the list when this drain happens? That could give you some clues.

I think that Lookout keeps running even in safe mode, but you could try disabling it temporarily and see if the problem persists. I can't think of many apps that could interfere with the auto update.

Some Play Store issues get fixed after resetting app preferences in settings - apps - overflow menu top right. Worth a try. Also, select any of those apps that didn't update and tap on the three dots top right to make sure the "don't auto update" box is unchecked.

Another thing. Do you have more than one Google account in your phone?
