Need Help Rooting

I tried rooting my nexus s 4g running ics 4.0.4 using the one click method and I am not being grated root access. Everything seems to go without a flaw in the root process and superuser is on the device but when I try to use root apps I am not prompted to allow access it only says root permission denied. I also downloaded connectbot to check and I see the $ symbol, not the expected # symbol and when I type "su" and the response is "Permission Denied". Any thoughts?
