I attempted to download an attached file to my email last night, during which my network connection was lost thanks to the flawless ICS update we all got.

Since then, this download has been sitting in my notification bar doing nothing.

Long-pressing on it does nothing.
Short-pressing on it does nothing.
Restart does nothing.
Shutdown does nothing.
Battery pull does nothing.

Anyone have any suggestions, or will this just be another ongoing reminder for me of how effed this update is?

I had this happen a few times, but it was always on Gingerbread, since ICS I haven't had any issues. I wound up having to delete the account, reboot, then add the account back in.

Since you are having problems since the ICS update, have you considered a factory reset?

Can you not delete the email and start over or have you tried that already?
This had no effect.

I will try this next, thanks.

I've considered a subscriber reset, I'll tell you that.

I've done factory reset from the OS and the bootloader, with no effect. I'm currently on my third Rezound in two weeks and they're getting ready to send me another replacement. I've loved android, I mean loved it, but I'm ready to just go with an iPhone at this point. The android idea is ruined and tainted by manufacturers and I'm quickly reaching my breaking point here.

Had no effect.

How about just clear the cache and data from the email app?
Had no effect.

On top of the annoyance of it perpetually being in the notification bar, I'm pretty sure the ongoing process is putting a dent in the already great battery life.

Hello, I`m new to the community. But because I too was searching for an answer and found it, the best thing to do is to spread the knowledge.

It`s actually much simpliler than one might think. And this I assume is because you have ICS installed.
1. Go to the settings page
2. Go to apps
3. At the to of the bar you will see three tabs, "DOWNLOADED", "ON SD CARD", and "RUNNING".
4. Slide those tabs to the left and you get the "ALL" tab.
5. Scroll down to "Download manager" press the force stop and clear the cache.

Presto! Problem solved!:D
