I'm new to this. Hence, the incorrect vocabulary used describe whatever, below.

I rooted my phone. I think I installed...
Rom/Model #?: KaosGingerbread
Android Version: AOSP
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-DecaFuctCFS-dirty-cd76c7c1 conap@conap-laptop #20 (sounds sketchy)

I didn't do my research on this Rom and I hate the fact that it is not fully complete. No camera, no landscape typing, MY MARKET IS MISSING AND THE STUPID PHONE DOESN'T LET ME DOWNLOAD ANY FILES FROM THE INTERNET, etc!!!

I want to either unroot my eris all together and downgrade to that Froyo rom (whichever rom is a version below and a lot more complete) or just restore to its factory settings.

I have read just about every forum and instruction given to unroot, hard reset, restore to factory settings, how to unroot using mac, etc... the phone, but none of them work for my case.

My Special Case
  • I have a Mac
  • I can't use parallel right now because I don't have a HD to back up my data through time machine
  • Remember, my eris is saying "download unsuccessful" every time I try to download directly from my phone. Including Market
  • ummm... I think that is it.
  • Nvm... I have tried that nandroid back up.. flash sd card thing? but I guess I didn't back up v1.6 because it just brings me back to Gingerbread every time!
  • Ok.. I think that's the complete list that makes my situation special

I hope someone can help me! I really want to figure this thing out so I can feel accomplished and tech saavy! :)

It's quite simple, really. There is a ROM called Flashback21 that will return your phone to stock and remove the custom Recovery partition - so, it will unroot the phone as well.

The ROM is here: [ROM][03/06/2011]FlashBack21 v2 -Return to Factory Stock - March 2011 OTA - xda-developers (you can use the one without the radio.) Copy that zip file to your SD card, and follow these steps:

- restart in Recovery
- backup/restore menu
- Nandroid backup (just in case)
- return to main menu
- wipe menu
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe Dalvik cache
- return to main menu
- flash a zip menu
- choose Flashback21_v2_noRadioflash.zip
- restart the phone

That should do it. I have done this myself - it works perfectly.

Sorry I haven't posted this sooner - I haven't been here in a while.

Thanks Doogald. This will come in handy at some point I am sure. I actually decided to change the ROM to CM7-which is ok. But, it is a bit slow and drains my battery. I am hoping to run across another soon.

I actually get better battery life from the CM7 ROMs than I do from anything else. As far as speed, though, xtrSENSE is stock 2.1 Eris, but very fast and completely compatible. [ROM][GPL][3/15/2011] xtrSENSE5.0.1 [cache2cache,apps2sd,oc,jit]-HTC Sense - xda-developers

My favorite CM7 ROM is Condemned CM7. [ROM] 5/04/11 Condemned CM7 V6 CM7.1.0 RC0 & GRE in post 2 - xda-developers
