I have an EVO running the latest stock everything from HTC and Sprint (December 15th update.) Clearwire just launched a tower in my area and I'm trying to try 4G for the first time. However, my phone will not connect. I'm literally sitting here with a friend who has 4G on and it is working on theirs. Latest PRI, latest PRL, everything. I even did a wipe. Any help is appreciated.

something is broken...

take it to sprint.. so they can tell you what is broken.

my guess is that you are not rooted... so not much you can do...to try to fix it.

Try going to system updates in the settings menu.

Update your profile.

I know when I flashed the new radios (I'm rooted of course) one of the things I had to do was update my profile.

Its easier and quicker than going to sprint.

I believe he said he did that (update the profile) in the OP.

Here is my take, FWIW: If you are in a Sprint 4G area and other Sprint 4G devices around you are working and yours is not, then your device is broken. Get it replaced and be done with it. From other threads with 4G problems, I have read that there is a WimaxKey check app that you can download to ensure that your 4G keys are in place. But, if you haven't rooted your phone and loaded up other ROMs then this should not be your issue.

You also mentioned that it's a clearwire tower that went up and that your friend was connected. Was your friend connected with a Sprint 4G device? I believe the EVO will only connect to a Sprint 4G tower as it uses a Sprint profle to connect to the network. I could be wrong on this, but I'm not so sure you can connect a Sprint 4G phone to a clearwire connection. If you could, how would clearwire charge you for using their towers? I don't think it works that way. It's kinda like saying, Verizon uses a CDMA network so I can use my Sprint handset on Verizon's network. Just because it has the same radio doesn't mean it can just connect right up.

They share towers but not billing. Clearwire devices have a certain device ID and account that is used, same for Sprint. The services are seperate even though they use the same towers.
