Hi all,

I'm a new Android user. I recently bought the s20+ SM-G986U1. I believe this model has the 5G network.

On the network mode, I don't see 5G/LTE/3G option. I only have LTE/3G/2G.

My country has no 5G yet but I believe the 5G option should still appear right?

My friend who is using the G986U version and also the same carrier as me does show the 5G option.

Is my set faulty? Need the pros help here.

TIA

Hi , welcome!
You have the US version , make sure your carrier in your country has correct APN
All s20 support 5G

Thanks for the reply. Pretty sure the APN is the same as my friend as we are using the same carrier. Just that we have different models. Anyway to make that 5G option appear?

If there is no 5G support why do you need 5G to appear?

I just got this phone yesterday and after paying more than $1000 for it, I would expect that it is usable when 5G is implemented. At least I know the function is there and working.

Only way for it appear is being in a area that has it. Now your friend has a carrier version s20 while you have unlocked version of s20 forr US.

Why did you guys purchase a phone for not your region? Curious!

Well.. our region only has the exynos version.. we wanted to get the snapdragon version that's why we purchased the US version. His phone is from t mobile while I believe mine is from Samsung unlocked. I'm just worried that if our country has 5G next time, I can't use it as it is now showing the option now.

Well , you can flash to the carrier version like your friend if it becomes a issue .

Probably it's just the way firmware displays the cellular indicator between TMobile and unlocked firmware. Hardware wise they both are same so you are good. FWIW you have the better firmware with faster updates and not any of that T-Mobile crap and junk compared to your friends phone.

True , but they like seeing 5G on the status bar :)

Another thing they can do side by side is a speed test , like speed.net and see if its the same .

Mine unlocked Samsung doesn't display 5G either. It isn't in the area where I live yet and I don't pay for 5G so I don't expect it to show. Once I go back to work in New York City I may try it out.

Are you on 5G? If not the T-Mobile SIM probably puts that in there.
My US unlocked S20+ on T-Mobile does display 5G. I think with T-Mobile they have refarmed lot of their network to call 5G. FWIW I get the exact speeds on S20+ displaying 5G and 4 XL and iPhone 11 pro max which don't have 5G. It's more to do improving signal indoors or something. But with T-Mobile my US unlocked S20+ shows 5G all the time in most of Seattle area but download speeds haven't changed much compared to LTE only devices

Most of my area shows as 5G area in TMobile 5G maps.
