Hi all, new here. I got a replacement Maxx through Asurion that is brand new and came with ICS already loaded. At first there were some hiccups but it seems to have evened out. My question is: do I need to do a factory reset, or can I assume it was installed properly at the factory? I have to return my old phone soon (has to be in the mail Saturday), so if I am need to do a reset I was hoping/needing to do it tonight. Can anyone advise me as to whether it is needed if ICS came pre-installed on a brand new Maxx? Part of me thinks it may only be necessary if ICS is installed when you already have content on it. Thank you in advance.

Edit: My main concern is battery. Apps were glitchy at first but that has improved a good amount. The battery drained pretty fast at first, the drain isn't as fast now but it's not as good as it was on my other MAXX that had GB on it. For battery use I have:
Screen - 65%
Voice calls -14%
Android OS - 10%
Phone idle - 3%
Cell standby - 2%
Android system -2%
Browser - 2%
Wi-Fi - 2%

Factory data reset is generally felt to improve performance after a big update to the OS, and since your replacement is new to you, it won't hurt to do it (there's no guarantee that the folks at Asurion or Motorola did it prior to upgrading to ICS). If you don't want to do the FDR, then you could at least wipe the cache partition.

My experience (and that of many others) is that immediately after the ICS update, the battery life decreased significantly; however, after several power charge cycles (i.e., letting the battery run down to <20-30% and then charging up to full), it returned to normal, or almost normal.

The battery usage that you show is pretty typical. Don't be thrown off by the higher screen percentage--this doesn't necessarily mean the screen is burning up battery. It can also mean that all other processes are more efficient, thus making their percentage of battery use less.

If I were you I would just do one. Since the phone isn't new they probably did a reset before sending the phone to you but I would do it again.

When mine upgraded, I refused to factory reset. I did a cache wipe, ran my battery dead every chance i had for a week, charged it back to full after and it hadn't had any issues since. I usually average between 20 and 30 hours depending on how much video i stream. I watch 2 hours for5 hours battery.

For what its worth, my parents upgraded their phones, no cache wipe, no reset, no complaints on battery life and both average over a day if they would let it go down that low

Thank you all for your advice. I have decided to do a factory reset, even though I really don't want to. I will update this thread and let people know if there is an improvement in case anyone else has the same issue

Remember screen is always going to be the top in the list if you use your phone. People who don't have the screen on top are the ones that let their phones sit for days without using it. That's the reason they get a day plus. I get 4-5 screen on time in 12-16 hours. That's fine for me.
