need rooting help

im a bit of a rooting noob can someone explain the benefits of rooting to me? initially i just want to get rid of the sprint crap on my phone and have it speed up a bit. its a little laggy. and lately for the most part i've been having trouble about not receiving text messages can some one help me out?

The sticky in the forum tells you how to do it. Easy to do. Just make sure to read it carefully, follow every step.

Pros:
CMW Recovery - you can make a full backup of everything, and restore in case you break something. Allows you to flash custom images or community fixes. Very useful.
Ability to remove Sprint and Samsung bloatware.
Ability to install software like "Wifi Tether for root", DroidWall, Adblock, etc.

Cons: I cant think of any, as long as you do a CMW Recovery backup, and be careful of what you do while using root permissions

Really??? I find flashing 1 file in Odin and 1 file in CWM much easier.
