i need some help here.

my usb cable was plugged into a usb port that was wired wrongly, basically it was wired in reverse polarity sue to a manufacturing defect. 5v became ground and vice versa, + data became -data pin and vice versa.

when i plugged this reverse polarity usb into my phone to charge, the phone instant shuts down and cannot switch on thereafter, basically it became dead. no amount of combination of keys could revive it. i have since sent it to HTC service centre and was told it might result in a motherboard change which means the data will be wiped.

the data is extremely vital and critical to me. i regretted not doing a backup.
is there any alternative other then to change motherboard?
could the issue just be the power plug unit?

also, do you think there is any chance for HTC to provide me the old motherboard so that I can send it to some forensic data retriever to retrieve my photos and documents?

Chances are the answer to all of your questions is no....

HTC will be reluctant to give you the old one back as they will surely want to reclaim the costs somewhere but they may offer a recovery

nope, they are not offering any recovery.

i guess i will try these two options.

1. offer to buy the old motherboard.
2. request to borrow the old motherboard for a week.
