Needing to Delete a WhatsApp Contact?

I know how to delete a contact in normal circumstances but this is more complex so please bear with me.

A family member had a works phone and I had him in my contacts.
The family member left that employment and handed phone back to employer.
Employer gave same phone to new employee.
That employee, complete with his picture, is now in my contacts listed under my family member's name and it will not let me delete it.
It is NOT listed in my Address Book but I see him when I press New Contact button.
It does not respond to Edit or Delete .
Phone is LG Leon 4G LTE.
WhatsApp Version 2.20.172
Any advice would be most welcome.Thank you,

Hi there. You put a WhatsApp version onto the bottom of your post. I am a little confused. Is the new employee showing in your contacts app or WhatsApp?

Whatsapp lists people by phone number. So if he was previously in your whatsapp contacts his number may still be linked to your WhatsApp account and that is why the new employee is showing up. Really they shouldn't have given the same phone number to another person. I can see it causing all kinds of problems.

You may be able to remove it by going to settings-apps-whatsapp and clearing both the cache and the data and setting it up again.

Thanks very much for your reply.He is listed in my Whatsapp,not in Contacts.
Would deleting Data and Cache mean losing everything including my photos and existong Contacts?

Make sure you dona whatsapp backup before deleting the data and cache. It shouldn't wipe it. But better safe than sorry.

You will find backup under chats in settings.

When I looked at my phone the contact has disappeared out of my list in Whatsapp!

Would this have happened if he discovered I was also inadvertently listed in his contacts and he Blocked me.

Would Blocking someone remove yourself from their list of contacts?
