**Edit - 10/23/2011**
The below is now outdated, as NetFlix has released a version for Tablets running Android 3.x.

-If you have not run the below....don't. Just download the latest Netflix app from the Market, and you should be fine. Ignore the rest.

-If you HAVE run the below, you will NOT be able to update to the latest version (at least I wasn't able to). Here is how to fix that.

1. Uninstall your Netflix app.
2. Download the attached "Crunch-Netflix_unpatch.zip" Put it in the root folder of SDcard
3. Power off by holding the power button, and selecting to Power off.
4. hold it in landscape mode with power button at upper left
5. push and hold the power button for a few seconds, let go...
6. As soon as you see the Galaxy Tablet 10.1 wording on the screen, press and hold the left half of the volume rocker button. As long as you do this before you get to the "SAMSUNG" word screen you should soon see the "Android with envelope" and "Android downloading" icons.
7. Hit that left volume rocker to select the "Android with envelope" icon, then hit the right volume rocker (which acts as an 'enter' key)... Now you should be in the Recovery Mode boot screen.
8. Once you get into the Recovery Boot Screen, the volume rockers act as error up and down... the Power key is the 'enter' key. Apply the update from SDCard, select the file "Crunch-Netflix-unpatch.zip", and reboot when done.
9. Install the newer Netflix from the Market, and enjoy.

To answer questions in advance, I simply took the original libnvomx.so from the stock ROM image and replaced it in the ZIP. I also updated the update script with different text to differentiate it from the original updater script. Renamed file, and uploaded. This ZIP will only update LIBNVOMX.SO back to the stock image Samsung shipped on the 8.9 Tab.

Cheers,
Crunch

(end. Anything below in this post is historical at this point).

Old Info Pre-Netflix app update (DO NOT RUN AS OF 10/23/2011)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Download and Install the attached APK " com.netflix.mediaclient_246_hctweaks.apk", don't update Netflix if it prompts.

Download attached patch "TF101-Netflix_patch.zip". Put it in root of SDCard.

-hold it in landscape mode with power button at upper left

-push and hold the power button for a few seconds, let go...

-As soon as you see the Galaxy Tablet 10.1 wording on the screen, press and hold the left half of the volume rocker button. As long as you do this before you get to the "SAMSUNG" word screen you should soon see the "Android with envelope" and "Android downloading" icons.

-Hit that left volume rocker to select the "Android with envelope" icon, then hit the right volume rocker (which acts as an 'enter' key)... Now you should be in the Recovery Mode boot screen.

-Once you get into the Recovery Boot Screen, the volume rockers act as error up and down... the Power key is the 'enter' key. Apply the update from SDCard, and reboot.

Recommend you use a File Explorer and back up the original libnvomx.so from /system/lib

No more 12001 errors for me!

I got Netflix running on my 8.9 now!

I actually went a different route, but used the patch file you supplied. Since I just rooted my 8.9 tonight (another check box filled in!) I manually copied over the new libnvomx.so file to /system/lib (backing up the old one) and rebooted. Voila, Netflix plays video now. I am also using the latest 1.4.1 version (it was already installed). Is there any difference between that one and the one you supplied? Also, I'm not sure what the libnvomx.so file does. I'm assuming this is for the Asus Transformer (per the updater-script), so was curious if it would effect anything else.

Thanks again, you rock! The lack of Netflix has been killing me, and now I'm super happy with my 8.9 tab.

happy to help. Just regurgitating what I've read in various forums, vs what I've tried. Glad it's working.

I'll have to update mine to the 1.4.1 APK I copied from my Phone ;).

Can't tell you much about libnvomx.so . I did have a peak at the source tree but didn't dig in far enough to draw a conclusion yet. That's why i saved my original :).

And yes, you can absolutely do what James941 did. It was actually easier to copy the ZIP and hold a few buttons, than remount the file system as RW, etc. etc.. Either works.

True. But since I was already mucking about in the filesystem using a CLI app at the time I found your post, it was easier for me to just copy it in there :D. Plus I was curious as to what the patch did.

I did some research, and while I still don't know exactly what the libnvomx.so file is for (I assume something to do with audio/video), it looks like this fix is identical to getting other HC tabs working with Netflix. Apparently the version that the GT8.9 came with does not have the DRM support that Netflix requires. Since it works fine on the 10.1 without this hack, I can only assume that Samsung shipped the 8.9 with the DRM-less version (why Samsung, why?). Since this is a system library, it's unlikely that Netflix could enable support without Samsung releasing their own update. Fortunately, this file fixes it for us!

I wonder if Netflix would be evil and block unofficially supported devices, like Hulu does. I sure hope not.

Hi,

I'm usually good with this stuff but this one has me stumped. I have tried to put the libnvomx.so file in the sdcard root but when I get into recovery to apply the update it doesn't show up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

Are you putting the attached zip file in the SDCard root? It won't know what to do with the .so file.

Yes the whole file. But as i go deeper into the file from the update screen it doesn't find the files. Which file or folder will start the update?

Thanks

Thanks again I really blanked on this. Haven't done anything like this in a while and forgot to add the zip file.

Netflix working like a charm now!

please help. I cannot get this files to show when i update from sd. I am tapping both the files to download first then power down to resume the instruction. I dont see zip file or anything.

The file im getting is an htm file, not zip. Just got my tab 3 days ago so itsprobaboy me doing something wrong. Any ideas?

Thanks from a noob! Good instructions. I feel *so* much better having rooted my GTab, too. It's almost like a real computer now :D

For those unaware, Netlflix released version 1.5 of the app which makes it allegedly compatible with all honeycomb devices. I'm running it now on my 8.9 and it's great.

Ha! Now you tell me! Next thing we know you're going to be claiming that Qadaffi has been killed.

Update posted in OP. If you want to run the latest Netflix version on the market now for 3.x Android Tabs, and you already ran the original post to get Netflix, please read.
