I have the US unlocked Note 9 on Verizon. The HDR does not engage anymore after I updated to Android Pie. Does anyone else have the same issue? It was working fine when I had Oreo.

There is a video in Netflix called test patterns which allows you to see the resolution you are achieving. My wifi network measures 150 mbps on my Note 9 yet the resolution only goes to 1280 x 720 which is 720p. I got 1080p on my old V20. My Note9 is set to highest resolution and fastest speed. Any reason I'm not getting 1080p?

How would I know if I am getting HDR?

Try playing Our Planet on Netflix. Your screen should become noticeably brighter and it'll automatically turn off the blue light filter if it's on. HDR makes the overall image more punchy.. Brighter highlights.

Why a I only getting 720p in Test Pattern video check when older less hi res phone got 1080p?

When I install an old version of Netflix I saved it gets 1080p but has no HDR. New version only 720p. Weird.

As far as HDR no objective method?

Question - I connected my Note 9 to tv today with HDMI. I put Netflix on playing a HD show. The Samsung TV shows the input as 1080p. Strangely however there were black bars on top and bottom so tv showing the same screen ratio as the phone. It shows the cable box as 1080i. Does that mean that despite Netflix showing 720p it is really 1080p after all?
